Welcome to the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq (or not).

Poor Samir Sumaida'ie.

Mr. Sumaida'ie is the Ambassador of Iraq to the United States. And his embassy is just so sad.

If you live in Washington, you probably have passed the Iraqi Embassy a million times without even knowing it. It's at 18th and P and looks like a run-down but once stately house. The Iraqi flag greets visitors to a lawn that is overgrown by weeds and wires that dangle out of darkened windows. The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq could have been the set for The Addams Family.

You would have thought that with all of the attention the United States has given Iraq, the least the United States could do is help the Iraqis spruce up their embassy. A positive image could go a long way during these difficult days.
